What Is Reiki?
Definition~ REIKI is defined by John Hopkins Medicine as “a very specific form of energy healing, in which hands are placed just off the body or lightly touching the body, as in “laying on of hands.” they go on to say” “In a Reiki session, the practitioner is seeking to transmit Universal Life Energy to the client. The intention is to create deep relaxation, to help speed healing, reduce pain, and decrease other symptoms you may be experiencing.”
Origins~ The word ‘REIKI’ is a Japanese term and it refers to the Universal Life Force (ULF). It is as old as time, but was rediscovered in the late 1800’s by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese scholar and Christian minister. Many people mistakenly believe that Reiki is a religion. It is not. Reiki is a science and is nonsecular. It is not part of any particular religion and can be used by people of any belief!
Reiki is a method of harnessing the ULF that exists in all living things and in the world around us. We are born with the ability to heal others and ourselves. It is encoded into our genetic material and is instinctive.
Pain is our physical body’s physical way of bringing our intent and focus to an injured area to promote healing as well as avoiding the injury in the future. Pain, both emotional and physical, is soothed by touch. The healing power of touch is well documented throughout history, often playing a strong part in theological mythos. Reiki also benefits animals, as they intuitively recognize the power of Reiki and are drawn to it.
Good health is simply a natural state of being. We have tremendous innate healing abilities and our systems will always work to overcome illness and restore balance. It is important to utilize these resources and natural therapies to complement professional medical care. Despite all of the advancements made by the conventional medical establishment, they are still lacking in their treatment of the person as a whole.
Benefits~ The healing effects are mediated by channeling the universal energy known as qi, pronounced “chi.” In India, this is known as “prana.” This is the same energy involved in tai chi exercise. It is the life force energy that surrounds all of us.
This energy is said to permeate the body. Reiki is alleged to aid relaxation, assist in the body’s natural healing processes, and develop emotional, mental, and spiritual well~being.
It is also said to induce deep relaxation, help people cope with difficulties, relieve emotional stress, and improve overall well~being.
